Linking Revit Structure with Robot and Checking Code

Autodesk Exchange Apps

The Structural Analysis and Code Checking Toolkit for Autodesk Revit software is a suite of tools that supports the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process and allows structural engineers to analyze and check your structure from within the Revit environment.

The toolkit contains the following items:
•    Structural Analysis for Autodesk® Revit®
•    The link with Autodesk® Robot™ Structural Analysis Professional 2014
•    Structural Results Storage & Exploration tools
•    Code Checking framework

Using this toolkit structural designers and engineers can optimize their workflows in the cloud and on the desktop by using the analytical model built in Autodesk Revit to conduct cloud-based structural analysis with access to Autodesk 360 services and by extending the Revit model to Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional software or supported third party analysis solutions. Once complete, analysis results can be easily stored and explored in the Revit environment.

Using the toolkit structural engineers can also verify and design structural elements according to local building codes and regulations which can be easily and quickly implemented by using the Code Checking framework.

Enhancements in Revit Architecture 2014

We are working on Revit Architecture 2014 and have found the following enhancements:
·         Stair by Component
·         Segmented Elevation View
·         New Sample Model
Stair by Component:
o    Additional Location Line options for stair run creation: Two new run location line options, Exterior Support: Left and Exterior Support: Right, allow you to align to the exterior of either side support when creating a run.
o    Modify actual run width before or after stair creation: Modify the new Actual Run Width option on the Options Bar when creating a run to change the run width value. To modify the actual run width after the run is created, in stair assembly edit mode, you can now select the temporary dimension for the run width and change the value.
o    Modify the landing shape: New controls are available on the automatic landing to modify the landing leg length (where the landing connects to the runs)
o    Automatic landing reshape behavior: Unless you drag the control on the outer edge of an automatic landing, the position of this edge remains fixed when you modify the runs or use the other landing controls to change the landing shape.
o    Automatic landing creation: When creating a U-shaped stair with runs of varying widths, the automatic landing is created with a depth matching the width of the narrowest run. The landing depth can be changed after creation using the direct manipulation control or the temporary dimension.
o    Accurate modification support: Temporary dimensions can now be used to modify the run width, the landing depth on U-shaped stairs, the radius of a spiral run, and the distance between stair components. Listening dimensions display for the straight run length and the arc run radius and angle.
o    Snapping reference improvement: You will notice more snapping capabilities when creating and modifying stair components. For example, run to run vertical, horizontal, parallel, and perpendicular snapping is available when you drag the stair path end control.
·         Segmented elevation view: You can now split elevations into segments that are orthogonal to the view direction just as you can for sections.
·         New sample model: A new sample architectural model,rac_basic_sample_project.rvt, shows an example of how you can use Revit tools to build a model and document the design. Learning Links connect you to help topics that describe how to use features or add elements.

Autodesk Subscription -Cloud

Access to Autodesk 360 Cloud Services and Products

To extend the workflow from the desktop to the cloud, Autodesk has developed various subscription to gain access to a collection if cloud services and cloud enabled product s powered bt Autodesk 360.

Features of the cloud:

  1. The virtually infinite computing capacity of the cloud allows you to run tasks without tying up your desktop or the need for expensive hardware.
  2. You can test the performance of multiple design options and rapidly increase the number of
  3. visualizations as an integrated part of your workflow.
  4. You can access Autodesk 360 services through a web or mobile interface as well as through your desktop software.
The cloud services includes the following products:

Autodesk® 360 Rendering:  Reduces the time  and cost it takes to create compelling, photo realistic visualizations and panoramas —without tying up the desktop or requiring specialized  rendering hardware.

Autodesk® 360 Optimization for Autodesk® Inventor: Extend ideation and simulation beyond
the desktop by testing the performance of multiple product design.

Autodesk®  360 Energy Analysis for Autodesk® Revit®: Gain insight into energy consumption and building lifecycle costs in the early stages of design.

Autodesk® 360 Structural Analysis for Autodesk® Revit®: Explore more design options and  predict performance prior to construction.

Autodesk® Green Building Studio®: Perform whole building analysis, optimize energy efficiency, and work toward carbon neutrality early in the design process with web-based energy analysis software.

Autodesk® 360 Infrastructure Modeler.: Effective Urban Planning: Make better-informed decisions and
drive quicker stakeholder buy-in by publishing, sharing and managing large infrastructure models on the
cloud.

Revit LT----- Autodesk's Vision

Why Revit LT and What it is all about?

Revit LT a lighter version of Revit software, which was launched in September 2012.

Since its launch in September this year, Revit LT continues to confuse many existing and potential consumers of Revit technology, but early adopters and traditional 2D AutoCAD stalwarts are already reaping the benefits of the technology, which is of course no surprise given the many benefits the technology delivers.
From the outset though we believe even its name does not help potential clients (many of whom will garner significant benefits from using the software) to understand what the product is, or where Revit LT actually sits in the market place.

Autodesk Chronicle

Autodesk Chronicle

Project Chronicle is a free technology preview from Autodesk Research that makes it extremely convenient and easy for users to capture, share, and learn from software workflows. Project Chronicle consists of a recording utility to capture recordings, and a website that displays the recordings as Chronicles, interactive video tutorials. The videos can be shared publically or set to private, so that they can be used as internal training materials for a private office or classroom.

The Chronicle Recording Utility allows users to capture workflows from within Autodesk products. The utility records a continuous video screen capture and optionally voice narration. What makes Chronicle unique is that is also records the timing and details of workflow information, such as the tools, settings, and dialog boxes that are used during the workflow.
Captured data is then uploaded to the Chronicle Website. An author can then publish the Chronicle as either public or private, so that the desired user group can view a video of the workflow. Additionally, the captured workflow events are displayed on an interactive timeline, enhancing the viewing and learning experience.
In essence, Project Chronicle will allow software experts to showcase their expertise and will allow other users to view and learn from their real-world expert examples.
Please visit the Project Chronicle Website:https://chronicle.autodesk.com.

Solar Studies-- Revit Architecture 2014

Revit Architecture Solar Studies

Revit Architecture’s solar study helps you visualize and analyze the position of Sun and solar effects on buildings and sites in the real world at a specified time, date, duration, and location. You can analyze the effect of the Sun on the same building at different locations, such as Boston or Melbourne, by changing the location of the building from Boston to Melbourne. The Solar Study tools in Revit Architecture provide you with a wide range of locations to view the Sun and shadow effects on the same building or site but at different locations by generating the solar studies. Revit Architecture allows you to generate a still solar study in a single frame depicting the shadows at a specified date and time. It can also generate an animated 3 dimensional solar study consisting of multiple frames depicting the shadow movements for a specified duration of time.

These solar studies help you analyze the amount and impact of the natural sunlight and shadows on the building and the site at a particular time in a day and at a particular location. It also helps you study the amount of lighting inside the building during different times of a day and year, at a particular location.
